1 Hour a day might be all you have to work on your project, it might be all that life awards you when you have so much going on in your life. Kids, family, responsibilities, friends, work, fun, rest, hobbies and so many other things that take our time. There will come a day or two that you will show up and be stuck, the drawing dint come out quite right or your character dint move on screen the way you had so confidently predicted it would. You pour the small amount of work time you have into the problem and you leave your work time with no visible progress. You banged your head on the keys, and tried your best to keep a cool mind, but your inner defenses all flared up, your brain feeling terrible takes you to the super familiar place of distraction and pain management (whatever that might be for you). For me phone usage is a big one, scrolling through endless screens until the pain “fades” into nothingness. When progress falters you might be tempted to give up, you might be tempted to say things about yourself and your abilities that are not true, you might be tempted to throw it all away.
When progress falters… but what about the day after, maybe even two days after? What about the happiness that comes with breakthrough? The joy that comes with seeing the solution reveal itself! By showing up day in and day out you create hope that the next day there will be something better, that it will be a day of new discoveries and new revelations. When you show up you create a bridge between your desire and what you want to be true about yourself. When you show up you prove that you can do it, that the task is not too much, that you can build something awesome and cool, and maybe, even neat.
Even if progress falters, don’t give up, if you keep showing up breakthrough is just around the corner. This is written for me just as much as anyone thats out there reading it, because this pass week progress faltered, and i’m sure it will happen again soon enough, but i’m gonna keep showing up I hope you do to. : )
There is a saying: “Why does it rain every time the natives do the Rain Dance?… Because they Dance until it Rains!” ;)
